Good question! Thanks for asking!
A Bat Mitzvah is a coming of age ritual for a Jewish girl. A Bar Mitzvah would would the analogous term for a boy's coming of age.
After becoming a Bat Mitzvah (at the age of 13), a Jew is responsible for knowing Jewish ritual law, tradition, and ethics, and able to participate in all areas of Jewish community life as an adult. It is also a great excuse to gather friends and family and celebrate. I hope you will share our joy.
He earned it!
In Jewish tradition, a full lifespan is poetically viewed as seventy years, meaning that reaching eighty-three marks thirteen years into a second lifetime. In this unique custom, we celebrate being thirteen all over again with a second B’nai Mitzvah—this time made richer by a lifetime of wisdom.
Neila shares her birthday month of September with her Grandpa Marc, who celebrates the milestone age of eighty-three in September 2026. Because of this beautiful alignment, Neila and Marc have the rare and special joy of sharing a B’nai Mitzvah, celebrating her Bat Mitzvah and his second Bar Mitzvah together.
Friday, Saturday, Saturday! Is this a bat mitzvah or an Indian wedding? Don't worry if you can't make it to every event; we will be delighted to see you whenever you can join us!
Please RSVP!
Friday Night and Saturday Morning are religious services. Appropriate clothing would be modest church clothes; no bare shoulders or (gasp) midriffs, no super-short hemlines. Yarmulkes will be provided for the gentlemen.
Saturday night is fun (and fancy as you like) party clothes but nothing formal is required. For men, a dress shirt or tropical shirt with dress pants. For Ladies, a dress or blouse and pants. The party theme is Greek Mythology so extra points for any mythology motifs or cosplay incorporated in your ensemble.
